ROWLEY UNITED COLLECTIVE

Background:

For the past 13+ years Rowley community has organised Hoon Hay Community Fiesta (HHF) under the aegis of the Spreydon-Cashmere/ Heathcote Community Board’s Recreations Advisor. A committee was formed by different agencies, groups and members from the Rowley community to assist the Recreations Advisor in the planning and organising of this event. Hoon Hay Fiesta has become the main event held each year, the day before Show Day and opened to groups to promote their organisations and for local community whānau to fundraise, also to showcase entertainment from local talent. Also a time for our community to gather and connect, in a fun filled community vibe for the whole family to engage and enjoy.

In 2019, the Hoon Hay Fiesta was passed over to the Rowley Resource Centre on behalf of the community to plan and organise, with any future community events. In 2020, Rowley Resource Centre and the Hoon Hay Fiesta team were able to plan, organise and deliver another successful and enjoyable event on the day. However, with sadness of the cancellation of the Hoon Hay Fiesta in 2021 (due to the COVID pandemic), the team is confident for events or activities to continue in the Rowley Community.

After consultation and deliberation, it was decided to change the Hoon Hay Fiesta team name to something that encapsulates everything Rowley and is collaborative of organisations, businesses, groups, schools, and members from the Community on the team, to enable them to focus, manage, plan, and administer leadership regarding community activities or future ventures held within Rowley community.

Welcome, to the new ROWLEY UNITED COLLECTIVE team.
